Get access to the latest release movies or those all time classics you love to watch over and over again, with Quickflix movie downloads service. I encourage you to take up their free trial offer, as this entitles you to 3 weeks from access to not only their download service but also to their mail delivery service. It’s a great way to see if Quickflix is what you’ve been looking for. Quickflix has one of the lowest churn rates of any subscription company (less than 3%), so there’s a very good chance you’ll love what they have to offer.
Personally, my partner and I have been with Quickflix for over 4 years now and for us it’s the only way we watch movies now. Prior to the release of their download movies service, they delivered movies to your door using their infamous red envelopes (I say infamous because they’ve now delivered over 10 Million of these all over Australia, have you seen one?) which is a pretty straightforward process, receive it in your letter box usually in 1 business day, watch it, send it back and they send you another one.
So with the launch of their downloading movies service in late 2011 we decided to give it a go. Here’s what we found;
Speed: Excellent
To be fair we are pretty close to our local exchange (within 1 KM) and last time did a speed test we were close to 16mb/s which is somewhat above average but in saying that, Quickflix recommends a minimum speed of 1mb/s and if you’re reading this there’s a good chance you easily achieve this.
Selection: OK (but importantly growing)
Bandwidth is expensive which is the major reason why any service like this can’t simply load up 1000′s of titles, and because they instantly stream movies as apposed to downloading (like other service like iTunes or BigPond etc..) they need to provide instant access to the movie. Since we started watching movies online the number of available titles has grown rapidly and consists of some decent recent release titles and all time classics. Quickflix also offers a Pay Per View offering of latest release titles that aren’t included in their monthly subscription service, but for us we’re happy to use their mail delivery service for those titles.
Accessible Devices: Great (and growing)
At the time of writing Quickflix offered their online movie service on Sony internet TV’s, Sony Ps3, PC’s, Apple MAC computers and Android Tablets. They also announced that in the coming weeks Apple iPads and iPhones will have access along with Samsung Tablets, Phones, TV’s and Panasonic TV’s. So you can see there’s certainly quite a wide range of devices that can access Quickflix and importantly they continue to grow these, with the idea that no matter where you are or what device you have you’ll be able to access their download movie service.
X-Factor: HBO a major Shareholder of Quickflix
Quickflix had a massive $10 Million investment from HBO film studio which is the first of it’s kind anywhere in the world. From a members point of view this can only be a good thing, as is seen by the instant inclusion of HBO’s hit TV series, Sopranos, Sex & The City, Entourage, True Blood and heaps more. Now that a big time movie studio is heavily invested in Quickflix it’s now in their best interest to see it succeed, and with competition for streaming movies online increasing you can bet HBO will ensure Quickflix has access to content hot off the press.
Starring: Amy Poehler, Bridgit Mendler, Will Arnett
Inspired by the book series “The Borrowers”, this animated movie originally produced in Japanese captivates the emotions and attention of viewers. The story touches on the common question on the relationship of humans with those they may possibly be sharing this world with, like Arrietty and the rest of the little people. Imagery and sound design are qute commendable.
